I’ve been wanting to visit Brighton for years. The thought of sun, sea and pebbles just over an hour from London has always been calling me, so I booked a 3 day trip.
I stayed in a beautiful nautical hotel on the beach front. Comfy bed, free gin in the room and an excellent room service menu.
Not to mention the most beautiful, elegant, rustic style spa. I made the most of the: large swimming pool, calming hydrotherapy pool, rustic hot tubs, empty sauna and steam room and beautiful chill out spaces. I should probably make it clear at this point, I am a sucker for a spa. Something to help anxiety dissipate from my body will always be a tempting way for me to spend a slow afternoon.
I had been warned Brighton lacks sand and I shouldn’t be disappointed by the pebbly beaches. Guys, the beaches are perfect! Yes pebbly, but a perfect place to daydream away a morning. The water was warm, clear and inviting. While it was a little choppy for swimming, I couldn’t help but feel a childlike glee paddling in the water, fleeing the waves and throwing stones towards the horizon.

Even the small bouts of rain felt necessary. Listen, I’m no believer that the universe is sending us mysterious signs. However, it did feel cathartic that after I threw all my anger into the waves as the tide slipped away, I laid down tired by the physical release, the skies opened too and released a downpour. Even I had to smile at the timing…
I also have to mention the lanes and north laine (not that it’s some kind of secret). I happily spent my time wandering through the narrow shopping lanes. Perusing all the jewellery, homeware and independent fashion. This is always something I enjoy. I rarely buy things (which often drives the people I’m ‘shopping’ with crazy) but there is something calming about looking at all the beautiful things people have made, witnessing the pride of the independent shop owners and organic community of shoppers. The people of Brighton were also lovely and chatty which made my exploring even more enjoyable. I was also very peaceful sitting in a pretty square, reading, writing and people watching while eating one of the best chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had.
In summary, Brighton you made a great impression on me and I will definitely go back both for day trips and to make use of the beautiful spa.
